What prompted you to start your own business? We have an amazing story about how our resort has been passed down through the generations. We love northern Wisconsin and plan to retire there and were very excited to be given the opportunity to work with Jaysons parents and take over ownership of Mission Springs.

Describe what your company does: We have 4 one and two bedroom cottages that we rent on a daily/weekly basis and are currently remodeling the “Main House” to be able to rent beginning this summer.

65 inch TV. Cozy furniture. Perfect for relaxing on a rainy day.

Anything extraordinary/unique that your company does: We are located right on Lake Superior and have two private beaches that are pretty shallow making them great for families with small children or fishermen who want to walk out into the lake and catch some nice panfish and bass. We are a small family business and treat our guests like family!

Given your business experience and the nature of what you do, what advice (whether general or specific) can you offer to the residents of your neighborhood? Pursue something that you love! We never imagined ourselves as business owners-creating websites, figuring out how to handle advertising and marketing, working with customers-but have been loving every minute of it!

How did you decide on this industry (events that led up to where you are now, where you went to school, etc.)? I feel like my whole life has prepared me for this “job!” I have always loved studying and researching, which has been extremely helpful trying to figure out how to start and operate a business. I have a degree in International Relations and Economics, worked for the Department of Commerce before having kids and, overall, just love making contacts and meeting new people!  We homeschool our children which gives us more flexibility to travel back and forth to Wisconsin and stay there for extended periods of time. Jayson has fun with the technical and hands on work of the resort. He loves taking a “vacation” from his job at Marathon to work on the cottages in Wisconsin!

What section of the neighborhood do you live in and how long have you lived in theneighborhood? We have lived in Forest Lake for 3 years and have never felt more welcomed and at home in a neighborhood.

Where did you grow up? Jayson and I both grew up in Ashland, Wisconsin

Tell us about your family: Jayson and I have 5 kids. Three boys: Adrian, Andrew, and Morgan and two girls: Sondra and Caroline.

What are your hobbies and interests? We love to spend time outdoors hunting and fishing.
