List of Public Boat Landings going North from Mission Springs Resort on U.S. Highway 13 North

Bono Creek (S Curve)– 2.5 miles North is a landing at Bono Creek. When traveling North on Hwy 13, the landing is located a short distance North of the Nolander/Birch Grove roads, south of the Wedal Road, on the East/right side of Hwy 13. Parking and vehicle/trailer maneuvering can be congested at this location, during heavy use times. The landing is sufficient for boats <20ft in length, with either a roller or bunk trailer. It’s a single lane concrete ramp, with a removable dock. The landing has limited protection from waves when the wind is out of the NE, E, SW or S directions. The dock is placed in the water shortly after the ice threat is gone from Chequamegon Bay in the spring and is removed earlier in the fall due to wave potentials from late season storms. This landing provides access to all Chequamegon Bay and surrounding areas. Historically there has not been a monetary fee for landing use. 

Thompson’s West End Park – 5 miles North is a multi-lane landing at Thompson’s West End Park. When traveling North on Hwy 13, into the city of Washburn, turn right onto 6th Avenue West, just past the Holiday Gas Station. The landing is 4 blocks South and East of Hwy 13, off 6th Avenue. Ample vehicle and trailer parking is available. The landing is sufficient for boats >20ft, with either a roller or bunk trailer. In recent years, the dock structures haven’t been questionable, as improvements are being made. The landing is well protected from almost all wind directions. When departing the landing via boat you’ll want to stay to the inside/left of the small island directly south of the landings due to shallow and underwater obstructions. This landing provides access to all Chequamegon Bay and surrounding areas. A monetary fee is required for use.  

Washburn Marina – 5.5 miles North is a multi-lane landing at the Washburn Marina. When traveling North on Hwy 13, into the city of Washburn, turn right onto Central Avenue, just past the Time Out Restaurant. The landing is 4 blocks South and East of Hwy 13. As you approach the landing, you’ll veer slight right onto Marina Drive. Ample vehicle and trailer parking is available. The landing is sufficient for boats >20ft, with either a roller or bunk trailer. The docking structures are in good condition. In general, this is a very nice location to launch/land from, but it’s very popular and can be congested during heavy use times. A fish cleaning station is also provided for use at this location. The landing is well protected from all wind directions. This landing provides access to all Chequamegon Bay, several Apostle Islands, and surrounding areas. A monetary fee is required for use.

Bodin’s Landing – 8 miles north is a single-lane landing at Bodin’s Resort. When traveling North on Hwy 13, travel through the city of Washburn. As you continue North on Hwy 13, ~2 miles North of Washburn, look for Bodin Road on right/East side of Hwy 13. Follow Bodin road towards the lake. As you approach the lake, you’ll take a sharp left as Bodin road turns sharp left into the resort and landing. Vehicle and trailer parking is limited to a handful of spaces. The landing is sufficient for boats <18ft and recommended to be on a roller-bed trailer. The permanent docking structure was recently rebuilt and is in good condition. The landing is protected from almost all wind directions. This landing provides the closest access to Long Island and the Sioux and Onion Rivers. A monetary fee is required for use. 

Bayfield Marina (Apostle Islands Marina) – 15 miles North is a multi-lane landing at the Bayfield Marina. When traveling North on Hwy 13, travel through the city of Washburn, continuing North into the city of Bayfield. When in Bayfield, turn right onto Manypenny Avenue. Continue on Manypenny, then turn right onto South 3rd Street. The landing and marina are located at the South end of 3rd Street.  Ample vehicle and trailer parking is available. The landing is sufficient for boats >20ft, with either a roller or bunk trailer. The permanent docking structures are in good condition. In general, this a nice location to launch/land from, but is very popular during heavy use times as it provides the closest boating access to Madeline Island and several of the Apostle Islands. The landing is well protected from all wind directions. A monetary fee is required for use.

List of Public Boat Landings Going South and East from Mission Springs Resort on U.S Highway 13 to U.S. Highway 2 towards Ashland, Wisconsin

Xcel Energy Power Plant/”Hot Pond” – 5 miles south/east into Ashland is a landing at the Xcel Energy Power Plant.  When traveling south on Hwy 13, merge east onto Hwy 2 towards Ashland. On the western end of Ashland, turn left towards the lake into the Xcel Energy Power Plant, across from 11th Avenue West. Vehicle and trailer parking is limited to a small number of spaces. The landing is sufficient for boats <18ft, with either a roller or bunk trailer. It’s a single lane concrete ramp, with a removable dock. The landing has limited protection from waves when the wind is out of the N, NW, W, and NE directions. The dock is placed in the water shortly after the ice threat is gone from Chequamegon Bay in the spring and is removed earlier in the fall due to wave potentials from late season storms. This landing provides access to all Chequamegon Bay and surrounding areas. Historically there has not been a monetary fee for landing use.

Kreher Park – 6 miles south/east into Ashland is a landing at Kreher Park.  When traveling south on Hwy 13, merge east onto Hwy 2 towards Ashland. When in Ashland, turn left towards the lake onto Prentice Ave, 1.5 blocks east of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Vehicle and trailer parking is limited to a smaller number of spots at the landing, but vehicle parking is allowed on adjacent side streets. The landing is sufficient for boats >20ft, with either a roller or bunk trailer. It’s a multi-lane concrete ramp, with permanent docking structures. The landing is protected from almost all wind directions. The landing provides access to all Chequamegon Bay and surrounding areas and is the closest access point to the Ashland break wall and light house. A monetary fee is required for use.

Second Landing / Northern Wisconsin Rod and Gun Club – 10 miles south/east into Ashland is a landing at Second Landing. Travel south on Hwy 13. Merge east onto Hwy 2 towards Ashland. Travel through the city of Ashland, heading east towards Ironwood, MI. Two miles east of Ashland off Hwy 2, turn left onto Reykdal Road. Travel Reykdal road to Lake Superior. Ample vehicle and trailer parking is available. The landing is sufficient for boats <20ft, with either a roller or bunk trailer. It’s a multi-lane concrete ramp, with permanent and removable docking structures. The landing is protected from almost wind directions. The landing provides access to all Chequamegon Bay and surrounding areas, including close access to “Sand Cut,” and the Ashland break wall and light house. Historically there has not been a monetary fee for landing use.
