“For the first time since 1994, Copper Peak, the iconic ski flying jump in Ironwood, Michigan, will once again play host to an another international competition on May 12, 2018. Only a 45 minute drive from beautiful Ashland, Wisconsin and our own Mission Springs Resort you could be part of, as a former participant puts it, “one of the most savage fitness events I have ever done.”
Tom Blackett Fitness says on Twitter:
“I’m considering making a return to Europe’s steepest race this year. The Red Bull 400 in Slovenia’s Planica valley is one of the most savage fitness events I’ve ever done. It took me 9.5 mins when I did it in 2016. The winner did it in 5! My whole body was in absolute agony but all in all it was a great event and great trip. I think I’m gonna go for it.”

If you prefer to experience the majestically breathtaking views of Copper Peak without the crowd, visit in the summer and fall when they are open for tours. It is well worth the drive.
For a small fee you will take an 800 feet chair lift ride above the trees to the crest of the hill (which is a 360-foot copper bearing volcanic outcrop) and then take the 18 story elevator to the main observation deck. From there, if you are braver than I am, you will be able to walk up another 8 stories to the top of the starting deck where the views are phenomenal, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing painting the skyline with a variety of colors more beautiful and breathtaking than anything you have ever seen.
